Dennis R. Murphy, MD, is the division chief of Internal Medicine. Dr. Murphy enjoys learning from his patients and following their health issues over the years. His philosophy of care involves cura personalis, meaning that he enjoys really listening to his patients and sharing stories with them despite the time restraints with appointment times today. He knows that communication is key. As a doctor, Dr. Murphy believes that his relationship with patients is fundamental to his delivery of care.
As a teacher, Dr. Murphy has received a number of accolades, including several outstanding teacher awards for resident teaching, and he was a two-time winner of the Arnold Gold Humanism Award. He enjoys integrating literature, writing, medical poetry and music into his teaching style.
Dr. Murphy's clinical interests include headache disorders, particularly migraine, mood disorders (depression), preventative medicine, infectious diseases, orthopedics for the primary care physician, chronic pain diagnosis and management, management of complicated lipid disorders.
