Joseph C. Watson, MD is a neurosurgeon practicing at the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Department of Neurosurgery, and professor of Neurosurgery at Georgetown University. Dr. Watson’s clinical specialties include heading the brain tumor program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, pituitary surgery, brain tumor and meningioma surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, and management of spinal AVM's, brain AVM and Moya Moya disease. He is fluent in English, French, and medical Spanish.
Dr. Watson earned his Medical Doctorate at the University of California, San Diego. He completed his surgical internship and residency with the Department of Neurosurgery at the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond (now V.C.U.). He has received additional training in pituitary surgery and cerebrovascular research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
An active member of the research community, Dr. Watson has particular interest in neuroprotection, ischemia, brain tumor biology and pituitary tumors. He is a frequent speaker on topics including brain tumors and pituitary surgery.
Dr. Watson is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He is an active member of the American Medical Association, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Neurosurgical Society of the Virginias, International Society of Pituitary Surgeons, Southern Neurosurgical Society, and the Washington Academy of Neurological Surgery (for which he has previously served as secretary and president).
