What makes me unique is that I believe in the art of medicine. It is easy to practice the business of medicine, but practicing the art of medicine is more personal. Believing in the art of medicine is to connect with the patients at their level, whatever that level may be. That's what I strive for in my practice. No one is eager to visit a colorectal surgeon, but the staff at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and me personally make a concerted effort to make patients feel comfortable, to feel that their questions are answered and concerns are addressed.
I provide all my patients with handouts that explain the pathology of disease and current standards of care: therefore, I educate my patient. This is something I believe will distinguish me from other practitioners in my field.
I want patients to know that when they come to see me that we are not jumping to surgery, but are exhausting different non-surgical options and treatment plans. In modern medicine, there are great advantages to seeing a specialist because they provide a higher degree of understanding in relation to a specific area. Colon and rectal diseases are my field of expertise and I dedicate the majority of my time to these specific areas exclusively.
I specialize in minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery for management of colon and rectal diseases like cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), and diverticulitis. I am also specialized in managing perianal disease like abscess, fistula, anal fissure, and hemorrhoids. Furthermore, I offer treatment for pelvic floor disorders including fecal incontinence and constipation.
