MedStar Health to Require COVID-19 Vaccines for Associates after Full FDA Approval

Policy aligns with recommendations from area hospital associations

June 9, 2021

As a member of the Maryland Hospital Association (MHA) and the District of Columbia Hospital Association (DCHA), MedStar Health supports their public endorsement of mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations for healthcare workers to ensure the safety of patients, associates, and visitors across all healthcare locations.

Katie Carter, RN Emergency Department getting her COVID-19 vaccine Once the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) removes the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) status for COVID-19 vaccines to full authorization, MedStar Health will set an effective date by which all associates will be required to have received their COVID-19 vaccination.

As is the case with other required vaccinations, medical and religious exemption requests will be accepted.

MedStar Health will continue to require associates to wear face masks and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while practicing physical distancing, hand hygiene, and other safety protocols across all our locations in compliance with CDC guidelines.

We are pleased to share that 70% of our associates and more than 80% of clinicians are now vaccinated against COVID-19, reinforcing our commitment to provide the highest level of care for our patients, and a safe workplace for our associates.
